Groupee Blog Collection: SWSW 2008

It looks the epic adventure is coming to an end.  After an enlightening phone call, I rush off to see Brooklyn band, Tiny Masters of Today.  They may still be in school, but the young rock stars have some good advice that helps the rocket ship finally gets off the ground.  Though the mystery isn't quite over once I get back to Seattle...

Excitement is rising in this penultimate episode of my SXSW Adventure.  I meet up with Shana Levy, the voice and brain behind Let's Go Sailing to talk about her musical projects, and to get some help with building rocket ships.  It looks like the device is almost complete...

I may finally be close to getting out of Austin!  The rocket ship is being constructed, but things don't seem to be coming together as they should.  I talk with Shara Worden, aka My Brightest Diamond, who apparently knows a thing or two about rocket ships...

As this episode begins, I'm still at SXSW struggling to make sense of my rocket ship plans.  I meet up with Devonte Hynes, (aka Lightspeed Champion), to talk about his musical evolution as well as rocket ships.  I soon learn that rocket ships aren't cheap!  I meet up with Craig Nicholls of The Vines, to chat about his (not always positive) experiences at SXSW and the tumultuous journey of the band.  It turns out that getting out of SXSW is harder than it looks...

It's a Swedish-infused episode when I get some advice from Lykke Li and Peter Moren, and they've got some pretty good ideas.  After a rockin' performance by The Soundtrack of Our Lives, the story thickens when a mysterious stranger shows up at the Groupee offices...

As episode three begins, I'm still stuck in Austin, but it's looking promising when Flowers Forever frontman Derek says that his other band, Tilly and the Wall, can probably help.  After a rousing performance from De Novo Dahl, I meet up with Omaha minstrels, Tilly and the Wall, but nothing is ever as easy as it seems...

The adventure continues!  Now stuck in Austin, TX, I've go to figure out a way to get back to Seattle.  I infiltrate the SXSW music festival to start looking for ideas and catch a performance from Hey Willpower!  Will Schwartz and Tomo Yasuda may only be two guys, but they make a big sound and create very danceable upbeat pop music.  I sit down with Will to talk about his music and any leads he might have for my return trip...

Our long awaited epic SXSW series is finally here.  Get ready to witness thrills, interviews, and musical interludes like you've never seen before.  And it all starts, innocently enough, in Seattle with an interview with Seattle's own Throw Me The Statue.  This much-buzzed-about band has been praised by PItchfork, Stereogum, and NPR, and now they're playing a crucial role in getting our SXSW adventure started.  Check it out:
