This Sunday night, December 7th, Groupee will be presenting a show at the Mercury Lounge in New York featuring The Shackeltons and The Sammies.  Both bands will be recording Groupee sessions for us earlier that day.

We interviewed The Shackeltons when they were in Seattle for Bumbershoot this year.  You can check out that video interview here.  The band is signed to Loveless Records and its debut record has garnered lots of critical praise.  Rolling Stone described their record this way: "..instead of pretending there are a hundred thousand good new releases, ...check out this wild-eyed fusion of Pixies and early White Stripes. The good news: the whole record is this freakish, this thrilling."

The members of The Sammies have the kind of stage names (Frank Backgammon, Conrad Vacation, Booby Freedom, Donnie Yale) that make you realize they probably never take things too seriously.  Prefix Magazine said this: "Remember when garage rock seemed like the best genre revival ever? Well Charlotte’s The Sammies do, and they’re acting like it’s 2001 all over again."

We're really pleased that both bands decided to make the drive up to New York for our sessions and doubly glad to present them for the good fans of New York.  Also playing on the bill that night are: Taxi Taxi and TAB the Band.
