"Get along with crazies, run along with crazies, burn the lake... stick around I'll show you what it means to suffer.." - Dorian Wood, "The Stronghold Passage"
Dorian Wood's songs takes listeners on an emotional, baroque rollercoaster ride. Indeed, his 2007 album, BOLKA, demonstrates his gift for (dramatic) melody and harkens back to Tin Pan Alley, even Vaudevillian days. The lyrics on his songs are emotionally charged, literate and riveting, like a great novel, able to transport the listener to worlds full of "sidewinding spider arms" and "sheets of rain coming down on the rails."
Aside form his solo work, Dorian is also a member of the innovative LA collective, Killsonic. Previous Groupee Sessions performer Liz Pappademas is also a member of that group.
For our session, Dorian played solo on the piano; even when stripped to their core, his songs are powerful vignettes. He also debuted "Black Pig Suite", a powerful epic that will be included on his next record. Due to the length of that particular song (over 11 minutes), we are not including the video, but the audio for the song is included below.
Enjoy the session below.
